Social Media and Social Change

I do believe that social media has the potential to bring about real social change! Almost everyone to this day has joined at least 1 or more social media websites, since has become the biggest craze over the recent years. People can access these sites almost anywhere and anytime now, not only on a laptop, but also on smart phone apps. This has definitely changed the way of real social change in a drastic way making it easier for people to stay in contact with all their friends and families.

This social change has also taken place with companies and corporations, also every business has a facebook, twitter or even a youtube page. Businesses are doing this because they know that people are contently on their smart phones checking out these sites, so by businesses joining these sites they can keep their consumers up to date with recent company news and even new products and promotions they will be having.

Social change has even happened with non-profit businesses, if you have heard of the Silent Children then you have to had heard or watched the video about Kony 2012. This non-profit business has gotten their word across to people in a matter of days, even hours, they did this so they can get people to recognize a problem that has been going on, on the other side of the world and making it an important issue here so then the government will hear everyone and help make a difference and stop it from happening.

I think it's amazing how much change social media has made across the world in all different ways, and i  believe in over the years this will improve even more.

  1. Yeah, I totally agree, the whole Kony 2012 movement literally went viral overnight and got a lot of attention and support through the use of social media. This is just one example of how social media can help businesses or even small groups of people make a big difference in the world through sharing a cause and getting support from around the globe. Never has it been easier to support these types of important causes and make a real difference.

  2. Hey Laura, I 110% agree with your post about social media making a social change. Especially, that you think it has started take place with companies and corporations. I definitely use social media sites to check out companies and businesses. The other week I was looking at a clothing store I normally shopped at and found out they were having a 50% off everything sale. I would have never saw this that easy without the use of social media. Doesn't it makes life so much easier?! I love it. Even talking to friends and family you can message someone at like 3am at night on say Facebook knowing it won't wake them up & that you won't have to wait till a decent time to tell them because you can just post and they will get it next time they are on and be able to reply at their leisure! It's fantastic.
